The company 4D Tactical manufacturers one of those items that's hard to appreciate unless you've experienced it. Although a rare occasion in the industry, when you stumble upon such a product, it demands some credit.
Helmet padding has come a long way since its conception, but we aren't going to dive into a history lesson like a baking blog. Long story short: they sucked a whole lot a long time ago, and they're a little more bearable in their current state.
For the guys who actually don a ballistic helmet for great lengths of time, especially equipped with NVG's, you all know exactly what I'm referring to. An hour or two of wearing a helmet is of little consequence. But when you're 6 hours into training or an operation, these helmets will quickly become a huge pain.
I've worn various helmets during my 8 years of SWAT operations. Countless hours of wearing them during training and operational use have led me to grow weary of their discomfort.
I trained with a buddy of mine years ago who was positioned as an operator for a federal team, where he filled me in on a fix for this uncomfortable issue. He showed me a helmet that had the padding replaced, where it quickly made its way onto my head. Ultimately, it resulted in me demanding to know who made them.
4D Tactical quickly earned a sale from me the same day. A week or so later, I was rocking the revitalized lid setup with a newfound sense of comfort. It was equipped with an RNVG night vision device and occompanying counter weights, IR devices, and a comm setup. I've never weighed this setup, but it's a heifer with a full loadout. I proceeded to use the new setup for several hours of evening shooting, which turned into nighttime shooting with the aforementioned NVG's.
No more hot spots forcing me to move the helmet constantly, and the weight of the entire setup had a perceived less weight to it.
I had no clue that a padding swap existed, much less fully comprehend how much of a dramatic change it would invoke. If you haven't swapped out the padding in your helmet setup, you likely don't realize how uncomfortable it is. It's also difficult for any sort of literature to convey the large change in comfort. You'll have to experience it yourself as I did.
Outside of comfort, the other positive byproduct is dramatically improved blunt impact and ballistic performance. The Marine Corps conducted testing of their padding/suspension system and found it to be far superior. I won't bore you with the data from that test, but in summary they gave the 4D Tactical product a big thumbs up.

Throughout my tenure of patrol and SWAT operations with a long gun and subgun, I've encountered several issues with slings.
When I started this career so long ago, all the craze was 3 point slings. We transitioned to single point slings. Now, we've settled on the two point sling being superior after many years of operational use.
Something that has made the transition with these various types of slings is the actual retention of the sling to your rifle.
Sling retention is vitally important for streamlined use during any sort of vehicle operations, transportation, or even just simple storage methods.
We all remember the old-school Ranger bands, made out of a bicycle inner tube that would hold the sling to the rifle's buttstock. That transformed into companies making rubber bands specifically for gear retention. Over the years, since the importance of sling retention has gained momentum, several companies have hopped on board by making their own variants of mechanisms that affix your sling to your rifle.
We don't care how it's getting done, whether it be a 60 dollar Gucci brand sling retainer or a 2 dollar velcro band from a box store, sling retention can make your life easier and safer. Overall, the reduction of being a snag hazard is the ultimate goal.
We've tried every variation of sling retention devices on the market to date. Some have been broken, some were a sloppy mess, and some flat-out didn't work. However, we've deployed the Subrevtech sling control devices for around two years now for both patrol and SWAT purposes.
The rifles that have been equipped with them are in and out of cruisers daily to avoid thermal drift and premature battery drain. Used on countless SWAT operations and training days as well. They have also been used outside of work during private firearm instruction courses, training SWAT teams of neighboring jurisdictions, and recreational shooting days.
We have yet to discover a better sling retention device that actually retains the sling, is rapidly deployed, is not in the way following deployment, and rugged enough to withstand what our rifles and subguns endure.

Tired of doing the funky body-wiggle while reloading from the belt in order to clear your kit?
We all do the upper body cant to the side in order to have clearance from our plate carriers and cummerbunds when reloading from this area. Some of the more hefty guys have to lean even more to accomplish this task. Although it isn't a huge deal, especially for those of us who have been doing the same motion for so long, it can create balance issues and disrupt your shooting platform.
This innovative product was designed and manufactured by Ridgeline. We've been using this product during training cycles and operations for many months now, and it most definitely earns a place in our "Product Showcase" category.
What we've found is that while using this product, it keeps your shooting platform at baseline. This results in faster split times and quicker movements. It's also allowed us to set up our belts differently, resulting in a more logistically sound belt setup.
We thought the angle may pose some comfort or similar issues, but we were pleasantly surprised when it enhanced the comfort of a full kit being donned or just a stand-alone shooter's belt.
The thought of incorporating angle adjustment was an outstanding idea as well. Just a slight angle adjustment forward and snatching a rifle magazine becomes that much more fluid.
We've attached these to GCode, Esstac and HSGI pouches with great success. There is a list of compatible manufacturers available along with other product information on our website.
This product has been an absolute game changer for several of us, and it's been a pleasure to work with Ridgeline to bring this product to the consumer through our website. Our shipment of DrOPs will be arriving soon and available for purchase online. Pre-order is available now here
